How to check a Bitcoin address balance
Paste a public Bitcoin address into the lookup box to see the balance and activity associated with that address. A lookup is read only: you do not need to connect a wallet, create an account, or enter a private key.
What you need
Use a Bitcoin address you are allowed to inspect. Addresses are public, but sharing one can make its transactions easier to link to you. Never paste a seed phrase, private key, Watch Key, or password into an address lookup.
What the balance shows
The report displays the Bitcoin amount associated with that one address, in BTC and satoshis, alongside its transaction history and unspent transaction outputs (UTXOs). A UTXO is a transaction output that has not been spent. Several UTXOs can contribute to one balance.
New transactions can be unconfirmed or absent until the data source catches up. Check the confirmation state and displayed data freshness before relying on a recent change. A missing or unavailable value is not the same as zero.
Why it may differ from your wallet
Wallets commonly use more than one address and may send change to a new address. This lookup covers only the address entered; it cannot identify every address in a wallet or prove who controls it. One address explains why.

- Copy the public Bitcoin address from the source you trust.

- Read the BTC balance, transactions, UTXOs and confirmation details in the report.

Common questions
Which address formats work?
Addresses that start with 1, 3, bc1q or bc1p: legacy, nested SegWit, native SegWit and Taproot. Paste the whole address. Anything that is not a valid Bitcoin address is refused before a report opens.
Does it cost anything?
No. A lookup is free and needs no account. A free Watch account saves up to three addresses. Watch+ costs $10 for six months and adds more addresses, more spaces and full history.
Why doesn't a payment I just made show up?
A new transaction first waits in the mempool, and the report marks it Mempool until a miner includes it in a block. If it does not appear at all, the data source has not seen it yet. Check again in a few minutes.
Is the balance in BTC or satoshis?
Both. One bitcoin is 100,000,000 satoshis. The report leads with BTC and shows the value in USD, EUR, JPY, CAD, AUD or PLN at today's price; the swap button puts the currency first.
Can I see who owns an address?
No. An address alone does not identify its owner. Some well known public addresses carry a label from satoshidata.ai, shown as likely when it is an estimate rather than a verified identity.
Does the owner know I looked?
No. Nobody is notified of a lookup. Our web logs hold the pages requested, the time and the browser, mask part of the IP address and are kept for a few days. Privacy has the details.
